Teruhiro Yanagihara was born in 1976 in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan. After graduating in space design from Osaka University of Art in 1999, he established his own company ISOLATION UNIT CO.LTD in Osaka. Since then, he has been working in the fields of interior and product design, design consulting and art direction for national and international clients.
In 2006 he was nominated for the MUJI Design Award and started the still ongoing collaboration with the LIM HAIR Group that until now has led to the completion of seven beauty salons in Osaka, Tokyo and Singapore.
2007 he was part of the WAJIMA x Kakitsubata Project, that was aimed to support local artisans and included the design of a series of products and an exhibition at Tent London.
In 2009 his sofa 'GROW' was launched by OFFECCT at Stockholm furniture fair and Milan Design Week. Other collaborations with international brands such as MATER, Denmark are in progress.
The name "ISOLATION UNIT /" emerged from the fundamental principle of personal relativity, of how people and things bear relations and dependencies, building instantaneous 'units', while remaining isolated entities.
In this sense, the determining element of design are the rapports of the object to its environment and the circumstances surrounding it.

1976年 香川県高松市生まれ。1999年 大阪芸術大学デザイン学科を卒業後、2002年" ISOLATION UNIT / TERUHIRO YANAGIHARA "設立。完成されたオブジェクトの形体や結果だけでなく、”デザインする状況をデザインする”ことが重要であるという考えのもと、プロダクトから空間まで、ジャンルと国境を越えたプロジェクトを手がける。2009年GROWソファをスウェーデンメーカーOFFECCTより発表。現在は国内、スウェーデン、デンマーク、イタリア、ベルギー等でプロジェクトが進行中。
